Directional Drilling Presents Top Solution

The best solution when you need to install something underground is horizontal directional drilling. This is a special technique which allows pipes, cables and similar products to be placed horizontally underground without interfering with the above ground activities.

Horizontal directional drilling is one of the methods offered by Trackson Horizontal Drilling Pty Ltd. It makes it possible to put a cable or a pipe underground without open trenching, which in many situations saves time and money. In some cases digging is not possible at all, so this remains the only solution.

There are three main stages of this procedure:

a)      The Pilot Bore

b)      Reaming Process

c)      Product Installation

a) The Directional Drilling Pilot Bore

Directional Drilling Pilot

Directional Drilling Pilot

The first step is to drill a bore hole in the ground, at the level of the future installation path. This is done by using a drill head, which has a transmitter incorporated, that gives the operator real time information on the position of the drill head. The information received is related to the actual position, the depth it reached, the pitch and the current temperature of the drill head. When necessary, there is the possibility to guide the drill head in such manner that it avoids obstacles such as buildings, existing pipelines, roads, water courses etc. While drilling the pilot bore a special fluid goes through the drill rods, coming out through the drill head. As this liquid is getting in contact with the cut material it is forming a mixture that will help strengthen the structure of the hole and make the inner walls stable. The process is finished when the drill head reaches the end of the bore path, where an exit pit must be provided.

b)  Reaming Process

After finishing the pilot bore a reamer is used in order to create the desired hole size. The operation consists of a rotational movement of the reamer while going through the hole. The same special fluid is used to make the inner walls more stable. Sometimes it might be necessary to re

peat this process several times with different reamer sizes to get the planned dimensions.

c)  Product Installation

Directional Drilling Pull-back

After the desired dimension of the bore whole is obtained the next step is to install the pipe, cable, or whatever you want to have inside. The product is pulled by the reamer, which has a system designed for this use, and in the same time the space remaining in the hole is filled with a special drilling slurry. The quality of the materials used at this stage is very important for the success of the installation. When the product has reached the other end, it is disconnected from the reamer and the work area is restored to the original appearance.

There are many reasons why people choose Trackson Horizontal Drilling Pty Ltd. Depending on the particular situation, the following benefits can have a great influence on the decision regarding the technique to be used:

  • With Trackson Horizontal Drilling Pty Ltd the surface area is least affected by the ongoing works
  • You avoid excavating roads and stopping the traffic
  • You do not need to cut down trees and destroy other plants since the bore hole can pass under their roots
  • When you have to cross a river or water flow it is the easiest and cheapest method, as you do not need to build additional bridges or deal with overhead cables
  • It offers higher safety since long distance excavations are avoided
  • You have the advantage of being able to place several products in one bore hole
  • The tools used by Trackson Horizontal Drilling Pty Ltd are designed to minimise costs and time spent on the job
  • There is a minimum aesthetic impact on the appearance of the working site
  • The technology helps reduce the duration of the work

You have the ability to change the drilling direction both horizontally and vertically, in order to avoid existing pipelines or other structures.
